Congratulations Professor Andarawis-Puri!

July 14-20, 2019: The NAP Lab led a week of hands-on research activities for 43 junior and senior high school girls who participated in the Cornell DPE CURIE Academy summer program. Our program was titled “Designing a hydrogel to improve tendon healing” and tasked the girls with determining the optimal engineering parameters for their proposed therapeutics. To accomplish this, the girls were fully immersed in the research lab and completed 5 different projects: (1) harvesting chicken tendon and fabricating gel-based scaffolds; (2) assessing the ways in which these scaffolds could be manipulated to modify mechanical properties; (3) assessing the effect of gel-based coatings on tendon cell behavior; (4) encapsulating protein in gel-based scaffolds for optimal release properties; and (5) assessing the effect of different gel properties on structure and matrix formation using histology. Great work NAP Lab!
